BEAVERTON, Oregon – The Beaverton Community Band (Martin Sobelman, Conductor) will hold its
Fall Concert in-person on Sunday, November 13, 2022. The theme for this concert is “Classics for the
Wind band – ‘Olde’ and New,” featuring selections that will take you on a musical journey through
time. Guest soloist Adam Eccleston will join the Beaverton Community Band on flute.

The Beaverton Community Band will perform the first known piece for wind band, Ouverture in Ut,
composed in 1792 by Charles Simon Catel. The musical journey will take you among others via Four:
on a Remix of Beethoven
, a mash up of the Fifth Symphony opening theme, to the 1937 opera Colas
Breugnon – Overture
by the Russian composer Dmitry Kabalevsky, to the recently composed Italian
Rhapsody
by the American composer Julie Giroux, and the seminal 20th century 1908-1911 First Suite
for Military Band
composed by Gustav Holst.

The Beaverton Community Band will perform two pieces with our guest artist, Mr. Adam Eccleston.
Concertino for Flute by Cecile Chaminade is an early 20th century work and a classic ‘have to learn’
piece for all serious flutists. The other piece with Mr. Adam Eccleston is an excerpt from the Claude
Bolling Suite for Jazz Flute, Sentimentale, composed in the 1970s.

Further, the band will bring a salute to the late Queen Elizabeth II, by performing Nimrod from Sir
Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations.
