Focus On: Percussion

Percussion makes a performance exciting, daring, and sometimes daunting, as percussionists sometimes use their entire bodies to produce the desired sound.

Percussion includes a family of instruments, composed of both pitched instruments, such as the marimba and timpani, and non-pitched instruments, such as the bass drum and snare drum.

Another common sub-class is the auxiliary percussion, an array of specialized sound-producers such as woodblock, castanets, vibraslap, and claves, which are used to simulate a familiar sound or give a comical effect.
